چکیده

While most approaches to automatically recognizing entailment relations have used classifiers employing hand engineered features derived from complex natural language processing pipelines, in practice their performance has been only slightly better than bag-of-word pair classifiers using only lexical similarity. The only attempt so far to build an end-to-end differentiable neural network for entailment failed to outperform such a simple similarity classifier. In this paper, we propose a neural model that reads two sentences to determine entailment using long short-term memory units. We extend this model with a word-by-word neural attention mechanism that encourages reasoning over entailments of pairs of words and phrases. Furthermore, we present a qualitative analysis of attention weights produced by this model, demonstrating such reasoning capabilities. On a large entailment dataset this model outperforms the previous best neural model and a classifier with engineered features by a substantial margin. It is the first generic end-to-end differentiable system that achieves state-of-the-art accuracy on a textual entailment dataset.

Recognizing Textual Entailment via Multi-task Knowledge Assisted LSTM

Recognizing Textual Entailment (RTE) plays an important role in NLP applications like question answering, information retrieval, etc. Most previous works either use classifiers to employ elaborately designed features and lexical similarity or bring distant supervision and reasoning technique into RTE task. However, these approaches are hard to generalize due to the complexity of feature enginee...

CS 10701: Final project report. Textual entailment in the domain of physics

Bag-of-words methods to the problems of semantic text classification and textual entailment have seen some successful applications [3], their straightforward applications are known to break when the training data is sparse, the number of classes is large, or classes do not have clear syntactic boundaries (for example when negational, conditional sentence markers significantly affect classificat...

Reasoning about plausible scenarios in Description Logics of typicality

In some application domains it is sometimes useful to reason about plausible but “not obvious” scenarios, excluding the most trivial ones. In this work we introduce nonmonotonic procedures for preferential Description Logics in order to reason about plausible but – in some sense – “surprising” scenarios. We consider an extension, called ALC+T R , of the nonmonotonic logic of typicality ALC + TR...

Probabilistic Reasoning via Deep Learning: Neural Association Models

In this paper, we propose a new deep learning approach, called neural association model (NAM), for probabilistic reasoning in artificial intelligence. We propose to use neural networks to model association between any two events in a domain. Neural networks take one event as input and compute a conditional probability of the other event to model how likely these two events are associated. The a...

Probabilistic Default Reasoning with Strict and Defeasible Conditional Constraints Probabilistic Default Reasoning with Strict and Defeasible Conditional Constraints

We present an approach to reasoning about statistical knowledge and degrees of belief, which is based on a combination of probabilistic reasoning from conditional constraints and default reasoning from conditional knowledge bases. More precisely, we generalize the notions of Pearl's entailment in system , Lehmann's lexicographic entailment, and Geffner's conditional entailment to strict and def...
